3. Tell me about an accomplishment you are most proud of?
One newer accomplishment that I am very proud of is that I passed the Seal of Biliteracy test and got the stamp that proves I am proficient in a second language. I took this test for Spanish, I am in AP Spanish and have been taking classes for 5 years. I worked very hard in this class and it has been a long time goal to become fluent in Spanish. Passing the biliteracy test is something that I am very proud of because it shows that I am one step closer to reaching my goal of being able to fluently speak Spanish. I also feel that this accomplishment will pay off in my work life because I can speak Spanish with people who cannot speak English and therefore I can help more people.
4. How do you handle pressure/stress?
When I am feeling stressed out, by school or by life in general, I slow my thoughts down figure out what needs to be done first and what my focus needs to be on. In school, when I am overwhelmed with homework I make sure I prioritize it and get done what is due first and try to get ahead on what is due later so I do not get overwhelmed again. In work setting if I am feeling stressed with the work load I would simply prioritize what needs to be done and make sure it is done right and on time. This would really help in the field of psychology because sometimes there can be a lot to work or research that needs to be done and having the ability to prioritize things will help me manage my stress and the pressure of the job.
5. What makes you different from other candidates we have interviewed?
What makes me stand out from others is my willingness to go to every length to make my work perfect. Many people would consider me a perfectionist but I like to use that to my advantage. I make sure all the work I do it to the best of my ability and is something I would be proud of. This makes me stand out because there are a lot of people that try to get by by doing the bare minimum but I would not stop until it is perfect.
6. What kind of work do you enjoy the most?
For me, I love to help people and to give people advice about their situations. This is something i have always been good at and interested in doing as a career. In my personal life, I am always the person my friends come to for advice or if they need a problem solved. Although a lot of people don’t necessarily like being the problem solver, this is a role that has always come naturally to me and is the type of work that I would enjoy the most.
7. How would you like to be challenged by a job?
Something that I would like to be challenged by is finding a lot of people to help. This can become very stressful for people when they have a lot of patients and when they have a lot of different things to do but this is something I really want to do. I would love to talk to many different people about their lives and their situations and give them my full attention and help them in every way I can. I think that this could be a challenge but a challenge that I would enjoy enduring.
8. Tell me about a time you made a mistake.
I have made many mistakes throughout my life but I try my best to learn from these mistakes each time. One mistake that I have made more than once is getting a bad grade on a test or an assignment. I’m sure this is a fairly common mistake but when I get a bad grade I try to make sure that I figure out what I did wrong and what I could’ve done to avoid it so I don’t make the same mistake again. I also apply this concept to the rest of my life with work and my personal life.
9. What motivates you?
Something that has always been a huge motivating factor for me is my desire to live a good life. I have seen what it is like to live an unhappy life and I want to make sure no matter what that I enjoy my job and my life outside of work because it is very important to me that I live that I can. I use this to push myself to get into the better college or get a higher position at work. I know that with this as my motivation, among other things, will push me to achieve my goals.
10. Where do you see yourself in five years?
Five years from now, I hope be at MSU still, I will be going there for a bachelors degree but I also plan on pursing a masters degree in psychology. I would hopefully be working in a psychology department or at an office to gain some form of experience in this field. I also hope to be living on my own and become more independent from my parents. I am excited to see where the next years take me and to see how this big life change will bring more positivity into my life.
